MANAMA: The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) held an awarding ceremony to honour members of Bapco’s Ladies Basketball team.
The event was held at the Bapco Club in Awali, in the presence of Member of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, member of Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairman of the ladies athletes committee, Shaikha Hayat bint Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa and Bapco’s Chairman andActing Chief Executive, Adel Khalil Al Moayyed.
The ceremony was also attended by a number of company officials, members of Bapco’s ladies basketball team, guests and invitees.
Moayyed welcomed Shaikha Hayat, praising her role in supporting the involvement of women in sports and her continuous encouragement towards the company’s Ladies Basketball team. He also expressed his thanks to the team members in acknowledgement of their contributions towards fostering efforts aimed at supporting sports and the kingdom’s aspired goals.
Shaikha Hayat presented a speech expressing her pleasure in attending the ceremony, hailing Bapco’s leading role in establishing ladies sports and its interest in developing female athletes around the Kingdom. She explained that the formation of Bapco’s Ladies Basketball team comes within the framework of developing talents and supporting the efforts of the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (GOYS) in the development of Bahraini sport as well as supporting the Bahraini women in the field of sports.
Chairman of the Bapco Sports Committee, Abdul Redha Haqihi gave a brief speech in which he referred to Bapco’s leading role in the formation of the first corporate ladies basketball team registered at the association. Followed by his speech, Team Leader, Nadia Muradi gave a short speech expressing her thanks and appreciation to the ladies team which had the support of Shaikha Hayat and the Bapco Management.
Al Moayyed presented a token of appreciation to Shaikha Hayat for her continuous support to female athletes. Shaikha Hayat also presented a token of appreciation on this occasion.
