MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain stepped up its efforts to check the pilferage of public funds by setting up an independent entity.
Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, the Minister of State for Information Affairs and Government’s Official Spokesperson, during the post Cabinet meeting briefing at Gudaibia Palace told reporters that the Cabinet on Sunday discussed, the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs on the draft control project to deal with cases of violations, embezzlement and misuse of public funds.
The proposed project aims to perform prior and subsequent control procedures on all types of financial transactions based on the laws, regulations, decisions and instructions that are in force in the Kingdom.
The project also aims to reveal any willful or negligent wrongdoing, which may result in unlawful spending of public funds, or the loss of the state’s right to certain funds which can be detected by internal audit reporting, the reports of the National Audit Court, the Legislative Authority or the media. In addition, the project include steps will be adopted to address and deal with violations and holding accountable in accordance with legislations.
The Cabinet approved the draft proposal of the project and decided that the Minister of Finance will issue the project as a Ministerial Decree annexed to the Financial Guide.
The Cabinet discussed and approved the memorandum presented by His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs on the Draft Law approving accession to the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) of 1979.
It aims at providing assistance to the shipwrecked; create for each coastal state adequate and effective arrangement for Coast Guard and search and rescue services and develop and promote the activities carried out by a number of international organizations in the field of safety at sea.
Promote cooperation between research and rescue bodies around the world and among the participants in the search and rescue operations at sea.
HRH the Prime Minister praised the great success of the Conference on Dialogue between Civilizations hosted by the Kingdom last week. HRH the Prime Minister also emphasized the intellectual significance of the conference, which gathered a number of the world’s reputable personalities representing various religions, sects and cultures.
HRH the Prime Minister also directed all Ministers to take into consideration people’s needs, and answering all their inquiries, and implement all services without delay.
HRH the Prime Minister emphasized his support to exhibition projects taking place in the Kingdom as these exhibitions proved to be of high quality, organization, and benefit.
