Dr Mariam A. Al-Jalahma has been elected member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Staff Pension Committee as representative of the Eastern Mediterranean region thanks to her administrative experience and contributions to WHO in many health issues.
The Bahraini delegation to 67th WHO Assembly also participated in the sessions to draft resolutions on combating violence and non-communicable diseases, as well as health in the post-2015 development plans.
Members of the delegation took part in discussions of many technical issues, including tuberculosis, hepatitis, autism, basic and counterfeit medicines, comprehensive health care, aging, nutrition, influenza and polio vaccines, among others.
They also spoke on behalf of the Eastern Mediterranean region on improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis and global coordination of efforts to address non-communicable diseases like diabetes, cancers, heart disease and stroke.
It also participated effectively in a number of meetings on the role of health on the post-2015 development agenda.
