MANAMA: The signing of historic Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the cities of Manama and the St. Petersburg will open a new era of progress and development between the two sides, according to a the Capital Governor.
“The MoC will enhance the scope of co-operation in the commercial, economic, scientific, technical and cultural areas. This means both sides will have an ample opportunity to benefit from the experience and expertise in these important areas,” the Capital Governor, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdurrahman Al-Khalifa, in an interview told The24X7News (www.twentyfoursevennews.com).
By all means, Shaikh Hisham said, the MoC is a historic step towards bringing both sides closer than ever in all vital areas of the agreement.
The MoC aims at further coordination across culture and tourism, trade and investment, and information communications technologies (ICT).
The MoC was signed by the Capital Governor, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdurrahman Al-Khalifa, and the Governor of St. Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko.
Shaikh Hisham praised St. Petersburg as one of the most important cultural and historical hubs in the world, noting the ancient sites, museums, and palaces that illustrate Russia’s long history and unique culture.
Highlighting the salient features of the MoC Shaikh Hisham said that there was huge potential of growth in many areas between the two sides.
“There is huge scope of developing synergies as Bahrain serves as a gateway to the $1trillion GCC economy for Russian investors and businesses,” Shaikh Hisham said.
For example, he said, St. Petersberg hosts one of the world’s best educational institutions including the leading universities and Bahrain can have student exchange programme.
“Similarly, the native Russians and have an ample opportunity to study in Arabic in Bahrain. This will help both sides of students to understand the rich cultural heritage of both countries. The co-operation in trade, business and two way investments will add a new value to the existing and start up businesses for both sides. The MoC is seen as a catalyst to boost the ties in all areas of mutual interest,” Shaikh Hisham added.
During the landmark visit to Russia His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, also held talks with the Governor of St. Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko in the City of St. Petersburg.
The MOC was signed, in the presence of His Royal Highness, between Manama, the capital of Bahrain, and the city of St. Petersburg.
The meeting focused on enhancing coordination on trade and investment, culture and tourism, infrastructure and architecture between Bahrain and Russia.
His Royal Highness noted the long cultural heritage of both Bahrain and Russia, stating that this heritage presents a range of opportunities for future coordination and cultural exchanges.
The Governor welcomed the visit of His Royal Highness to St. Petersburg and expressed his gratitude for His Royal Highness’ personal interest in the city.
He also emphasised his interest in furthering coordination between the two countries in trade and investment and culture and tourism.
