MANAMA: Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, recently signed a three-year deal with EMC to meet the airline’s IT storage requirements while realizing both organizations’ missions of utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to boost business.
EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses to transform their operations and deliver IT as a service.
“We are pleased to extend our partnership with EMC to meet the national carrier’s IT storage requirements. Our longstanding relationship with EMC dates back to 2009 when EMC became the primary data storage infrastructure provider and one of the major components in Gulf Air Private Cloud. As a global leader in their field, we are delighted to expand our relationship with EMC to further support the airline’s IT function,” Gulf Air Acting Chief Executive Officer Maher Salman Al Musallam, said.
“Gulf Air implemented Private Cloud Computing in 2010 which led to the airline realizing faster and more efficient business performance and thereby enhanced customer service. EMC is a key enabler in supporting our cloud computing efforts and we are delighted to work with them in this regard,” Gulf Air Director Information Technology, Dr Jassim Haji, said.
“As a world-class provider of passenger and freight travel, Gulf Air needed a solution that would provide maximum scalability to allow for future growth without adding cost and complexity to the existing IT environment. Together with EMC, Gulf Air has successfully deployed an effective private cloud solution to transform their workflows and business processes and create a strong foundation for data growth by making the best use of existing resources and infrastructure to increase both delivery and response times and offer much faster, more effective services to all stakeholders,” Habib Mahakian, Regional General Manager, Gulf and Pakistan at EMC Corporation, said.
Gulf Air has been at the forefront of introducing several innovations and improvements in its IT operations including the recent introduction of Private Cloud Computing. The airline also adopts several “green” solutions in its Information Technology infrastructure and practices including last year’s launch of its state-of-the-art, energy efficient Data Centre at the airline’s headquarters that is one of the most environmentally friendly IT centers in the Kingdom.
