MANAMA: The holy month of Ramadan will start from Sunday as the Ramadan moon was not sighted in Bahrain or any other GCC country.
Earlier, the UAE and Saudi Arabia also announced that the Ramadan moon was not sighted following the moon sighting committees meetings in both countries.
The Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs in Bahrain requested the public to report sighting of the moon to the authorities concerned.
A global Ramadan fasting map released by the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomy Centre showed the average fasting hours during Ramadan, which starts towards the end of June, are as long as 15 hours in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
The entire GCC, with few exceptions, mark the start of Holy month of Ramadan with Saudi Arabia.
