MANAMA: In an important milestone, the environmental performance of Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre has been recognised with a Bronze Status by EarthCheck; the travel and tourism industry’s leading environmental management, benchmarking and Certification Company.
EarthCheck operates the world’s most scientifically rigorous benchmarking program and measures key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to provide an all-inclusive picture of operational performance.
“We believe it’s our responsibility to take the right actions today for a better tomorrow,” Puneet Singh, Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre’s General Manager, said.
“We’re very proud to be recognised by EarthCheck and we’re committed to our planet earth. As another sign of our commitment to the environment we participated in the Earth Hour in March and decided to continue with the initiative on a monthly basis. Every last Saturday of the month we observe the Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights and electronic equipment in the public areas of the hotel. We also donate our left-over food to a local animal shelter on a daily basis. We believe every little action counts,” Singh, said.
Kempinski Bahrain was at or above the Best Practice levels in Environmental Policy, Water Saving Rating, Waste Recycling Rating, Community Commitment, Cleaning Products Rating, and Pesticide Products Ratings.
Benchmarking involves submitting a year’s worth of operational data to EarthCheck, and this is compared with industry data collected from more than 1,300 organizations in more than 70 countries. The benchmark data has been collected between 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2012.
“I am delighted that Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre have Benchmarked their operations,” Stewart Moore, EarthCheck CEO, said.
“They have recognized the need to be responsible for the impacts of their operations and transparent in their environmental statements.”
For economies reliant on travel and tourism, EarthCheck’s benchmarking data provides the only historical record of the global environmental impacts of the industry over the past 12 years. More importantly, it rates the effectiveness of industry efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) and conserve natural resources at a project-by-project level.
Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel Bahrain City Centre has portrayed its commitment to take meaningful steps towards resolving some of the real issues that face this planet by dedicating their efforts on a daily basis to a better and healthier environment and society.
