GENEVA: Ombudsman, Secretary-General, Nawaf Mohammed Al Maawda, participated in the 26th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, held here from June 10 to 27, 2014.
The Secretary-General valued the joint statement delivered by the Representative of Switzerland, in which 46 countries welcomed the establishment of the Ombudsman in the Kingdom of Bahrain and its first annual report last May, as well as the establishment of a Commission of the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees.
He affirmed the Ombudsman’s keenness on taking part in various events and human rights meetings out of its role and belief in the importance of communicating with establishments, bodies and organisations inside and outside Bahrain.
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system, responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe, established in March 2006.
