MANAMA: The Assistant Undersecretary of Legal Affairs announced that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science summoned on Wednesday the General Secretary of Al Wefaq, Ali Salman Ahmed, and Al Wefaq Member Khalil Ibrahim Marzooq for violating a Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments decision regarding the interaction of political societies with foreign political groups and organizations, in relation to their meeting with Tom Malinowski, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the American Embassy in Manama.
The decision states that political societies’ interaction with foreign diplomatic missions and embassies, foreign government organizations or institutions or representatives of foreign countries should be done in coordination with the Foreign Ministry and in the presence of its representative or related person chosen by the Foreign Ministry. In addition, the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowment Ministry must be informed at least 3 days prior to the meeting time.
The Assistant Undersecretary concluded by saying that after interviewing the two individuals they left the headquarters of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science. Their statements and paperwork will be referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.
