Manama: Batelco’s Chairman Shaikh Hamad Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa announced that Batelco Group Chief Executive Alan Whelan will assume the lead role for the company’s Bahrain operations following the resignation of Rashid Abdulla, Batelco’s Bahrain Chief Executive.
Abdulla has served 40 years in the company, having joined Batelco in an engineering role, and subsequently holding several management roles in various departments. He spent a decade at Qualitynet, Batelco’s subsidiary in Kuwait, where he helped to turn the company into a highly profitable and customer-focused organization. In 2011, Rashid was appointed as the CEO of Batelco Bahrain and led the company to some of its highest accomplishments, such as the launch of its 4G LTE network in 2013.
“Batelco Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to express its appreciation to Rashid for his commendable contributions to Batelco’s operations throughout his tenure,” Shaikh Hamad, said.
“The search for a new Bahrain CEO is underway, but such a process may take some time. However, we are confident that Whelan with his vast experience in the telecommunications industry will competently lead the day to day Batelco Bahrain operation until the appointment of a suitable replacement. Furthermore, he is assured of the full support of the Bahrain executive team to deliver key targets and meet various goals as outlined in Batelco Bahrain’s strategy,” Shaikh Hamad, added.
Whelan said that he looked forward to working directly with Batelco Bahrain’s management and staff.
“Bahrain is a key market in our Group operations and Batelco’s employees and management are well aware of the competitive challenges that continue to shape the local market. We will remain focused on further enhancing the good relationships with have with our customers and continue to deliver value and innovation that is in line with their requirements,” Whelan, added.
