UAE: Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, has revealed the launch of a new initiative that will see the distribution of free life jackets to members of the local fishing community.
The move, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Dubai Fishermen Cooperative Association, falls in line with the DMCA’s continuing efforts to promote maritime safety, increase awareness on the importance of wearing life jackets while at sea and the move to ensure the maximum safety of everyone using the waterways, including for water sports, in line with the latest international safety standards.
According to the DMCA, life jackets remains an invaluable marine safety accessory for anyone venturing out to the sea, especially for water sports enthusiasts and fishermen as it can prevent them from drowning in deep waters.
In line with the launch of the new initiative, the authority has also released the latest marine safety regulations and standards to avoid any potential risks in water and support the ongoing efforts to reduce maritime accidents and safeguard people’s lives–thus promoting and reinforcing Dubai’s position as an ideal destination for water sports and marine activities.
“The launch of this new safety-focused initiative demonstrates the DMCA’s continued aim to develop a modern and safe maritime sector in Dubai.
The latest initiative complements DMCA’s commitment to maintain the highest standards of security and personal safety. Wearing a life jacket guarantees people to enjoy water activities without the fear of drowning,” Adel Kalantar, head of registration and licensing department, DMCA, said.
“Dubai is known for its attractive and open coastline, making it a perfect location for water sports and fishing, which has been one of the emirate’s prime maritime activities for centuries. We are implementing this new initiative in order to ensure safety for water sports hobbyists and also for our local fishermen. The distribution of free life jackets reflects our commitment to provide the best for Dubai,” Kalantar, added.
