UAE: The role of advanced ‘smart’ concepts such as ‘Big Data’ and ‘Cloud Computing’ in the development of genuinely ‘smart cities’ will be extensively covered through discussions and exhibitions at the Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 expo taking place from September 15 to 16, 2014 at Jumeirah Emirates Tower, Dubai.
To be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the event will feature successful local and international ‘smart’ technology startups and explore the ‘smart city’ vision through various master classes, discussion panels and exhibitions. It will highlight how going ‘smart’ is integral to Dubai’s vision of becoming a ‘City of the Future.’
Big Data, machine-to-machine (M2M) and Cloud Computing technologies have been identified as essential elements for Dubai to become a Smart City. Many aspiring Smart Cities are leveraging these innovative technologies to provide essential public services to their citizens such as security, transportation, water and energy management, healthcare, utilities, and emergency response. For Dubai, the challenge will be to set up cost-effective and sustainable data centers that can collect, process, share, store and analyze data to transform Big Data into useful information using cloud computing.
“Many cities across the world are now making the shift to being a Smart City with an aim to make their urban environment more desirable, secured, sustainable and eco-friendly for their citizens, residents and tourists. There is no denying that Big Data will play a highly significant role in enhancing essential services in Dubai by improving its infrastructure, planning and management. Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 will offer a platform to brainstorm about SMART technologies that can offer many new windows of opportunities for informed decision-making and better citizen engagement in a Smart City,” Masood Al Awar, CEO, TASWEEK Real Estate Development and Marketing, said.
