MANAMA: Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Abdullateef Abdullah met United Nations Development Programme Resident Coordinator Peter Grohmann on Saturday following a statement by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights seeking an immediate release of Mariam Al Khawaja.
They discussed the details related to Maryam Al Khawaja’s arrest at Bahrain International Airport on August 30, including Khawaja’s assault on a female officer and a policewoman. Both were injured in the assault as documented in two medical reports.
The Chief said the procedures adopted by the Bahrain International Airport police to arrest Al Khawaja and refer her to the Public Prosecutor were routine measures taken against any person who broke the law. He clarified that arrests did not take into consideration the personality or philosophy of the arrested person and that no one was above the law.
