MANAMA: The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery on Wednesday Jawahery stressed on the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the Arab labour Unions.
He was addressing the Egyptian labour delegation which visited GPIC and said that GPIC would support all efforts to preserve the rights of workers and further improve their working conditions.
General Federation of Trade Unions of Egypt delegation led by its Chairman Jebali Maraghi visited the GPIC in Sitra and met with company’s officials and labour union officials.
Maraghi, who is a member of the Egyptian Shura Council and its constituent assembly, also heads the country’s delegation to the current session of the Arab Labour Organisation. General Federation of Trade Unions of Egypt director of public relations Hamdi Abdulaziz Mahmoud Faraj and Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation Chairman of the Executive Council Yaqoob Mohamed Yousif accompanied him.
GPIC President welcomed the role of the Egyptian federation in looking after and protecting the interests of workers, especially in the light of the developments in Egypt in the recent past. He said the union’s efforts in making the workers assert their rights and develop their experience were laudable.
He also said he was glad to see the cumulative experience of the union representatives, which had played a role in achieving gains for the labour union and providing stability to the workers.
He recalled the courageous stand taken by the workers during the exceptional situation that Egypt passed through and applauded their rejection of all pressure from opposition parties to get involved in politics.
He urged the visiting delegation to keep resisting such pressure and work solely to preserve the rights of workers without getting drawn into any ethnic or sectarian issues.
Maraghi thanked Dr. Jawahery for the hospitality and the warm reception and said that GPIC is a model for the world’s petrochemical industry to follow. He praised the trade union activities at the company and said their co-operation with the management on important issues was commendable.
The guests later took a tour of the GPIC complex, during which they were briefed on the stages of manufacturing and export. They learnt about the company’s environmental projects as well as the great attention given to environmental initiatives and charities.
