Manama: The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) on Tuesday confirmed the 174 cases of alleged intrusion into accounts through ATM and credit cards.
In a statement, the CBB clarified and reassured clients of retail banks and credit card companies on what has been circulating recently about operations to penetrate the bank accounts of some customers by forging ATM cards and credit cards.
The CBB said the intrusion was limited and included the installation of scanning and imaging on a few ATMs for a number of banks where the number of cards affected by that was 174 cases.
The CBB said that it met with all retail banks and card companies to discuss the cases of penetration and the development of appropriate security measures to safeguard the interests of customers and banks as well as discussing the ways to prevent the recurrence of such intrusions.
“It was the vigilance of banks through the immediate effective control of deals made through the cards and the mandatory requirements of the Central Bank about sending short text messages a significant impact on the speed of the discovery of this breakthrough,” it added.
