Manama: The United Nations Day will be marked by the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bahrain on Thursday, 23 October 2014, to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the United Nations Charter. This year’s UN Day commemoration will focus on the Post-2015 Development Agenda that will succeed to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Under this theme the UN Country Team will hold a workshop with UN counterparts and a UN Day evening reception. The events are supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Information, The Economic Development Board and the Central Informatics Organization.
Around the world, a large number of policymakers, academics, experts, business people and interested citizens participated in global, regional and national consultations to discuss priorities for the new international development agenda and the future Sustainable Development Goals. In Bahrain over 4000 people participated in the UN global My World survey expressing their future development needs. In view of this, the United Nations Country Team will be hosting a half day workshop to stimulate a dialogue on the Post-2015 Development Agenda among key institutions that are engaged in national development planning and implementation building on Bahrain Vision 2030.
On the evening of October 23, the UN Country Team will host a reception at the Diplomat Radisson Hotel which will include an address by Ghanim bin Fadhul Al-Buainain, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The evening will also have brief presentations by Bahraini citizens highlighting the UN’s role & key achievements for Bahrain for 2013-14.
