Manama: Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the managing entity of BIA, has announced the closure of BIA’s long-term Car Park “C” in preparation for the start of the early phases of the AMP due to start early next year.
The announcement came as the progress already underway on the Airport Modernization Program (AMP) for Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
The car Park “C” entrances will be closed starting from November 15th, 2014, 23:59 hrs, while all passenger cars should exit Car Park “C” the latest by December 15th, 2014.
“This is an exciting phase for the BIA community and the country as we move ahead with our plans to modernize Bahrain’s gateway; closure of the car park signifies a step closer to construction works starting on the Airport Modernization Program (AMP). In the coming few months, working hand in hand with the Ministry of Transportation, we will be making significant announcements related to this ambitious project which will undoubtedly solidify BIA’s position as a significant regional hub,” Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, said.
BAC is working closely with its facility management arm, BAC Facility Management (BAC FM) who recently started managing BIA’s Car Parks, in addition to key BIA stakeholders to ensure minimum disruption is caused to passenger movement and effective alternative parking solutions are put in place.BAC will also be increasing the provision of shuttle buses between the Airport Car Parks and the Airport Terminal Building as well as the frequency of pick-ups and drop-offs for the shuttle buses to maintain speed of service.
“In our capacity as managers of BIA’s parking facilities, it is our duty to provide passengers and visitors with adequate parking spaces and a convenient, hassle-free access to BIA reflecting the airport’s efficiency. To compensate for the closure of Car Park “C”, we will ensure long-term Car Parks “B”, “D” and “E” are ready to provide an alternative long term parking solution,” Udo Soicke, CEO of BAC Facility Management, said.
BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport’s contribution to the local economy in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision. In its operational role, BAC is responsible for elevating the airport’s operations, infrastructure and services. This is set to improve BIA’s capabilities and cater to the growing number of passengers as well as the changing demands of stakeholders.
