MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain’s stature as a regional financial centre can be a catalyst in fight against terrorist financing, according to the British Ambassador to Bahrain.
The British Ambassador Iain Lindsay on Sunday told The24X7News Bahrain (www.twentyfoursevennews.com) that Bahrain being the of the Conference on Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) shows the commitment of this nation in fight against terrorism, on one hand, and its important role as a leading banking and financial hub, on the other hand.
Referring to the remarks of Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, the Ambassador Lindsay said that he was confident that such conferences would help the participating nations to devise a collective and effective strategy to address the terrorist financing issue.
“Terrorists are using sophisticated means of securing finances and in Iraq and Syria they got hold of the oil fields and which have been used as financial sources which needs to be stopped immediately,” he added.
He said that there has been a growing awareness among the global community in general and MENA region in particular to put a lid on the financial resources of the terrorist organizations.
The Ambassador said that the region was facing a huge challenge in fighting, for example, Daesh which has been named as one of the richest terrorist organizations.
He called upon the regional countries to work together in this fight as this war which according to him remains a quite challenging affair.
