MANAMA: People who have committed crime should face justice irrespective of any other consideration, according to Bahrain’s Justice Minister.
Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa told a post Parliamentary election Press Conference that those who committed crimes should stand trial and it was up to the courts to decide such cases.
The Minister was responding to a question that many citizens have been facing trials and hence denied an opportunity to participate in elections 2014.
“We can’t interfere in the judicial process as the constitution ensures freedom to all citizens,” he added.
“The election authority held elections unilaterally whilst it is keeping more than 3000 prisoners behind bars, including Ebrahim Shareef, who is the former Secretary-General of the National Democratic Action Society, and other political figures,” Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary General of Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, quoted saying on Saturday, the day of elections in Bahrain.
The Minister said that the election would further strengthen the ongoing reforms process as well democracy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
