MANAMA: The holding of parliamentary elections is reflective of the leadership’s commitment to the democratic reforms and firm belief in freedoms enshrined by the Constitution.
This was the crux of the speech delivered by the State Minister for Information Affairs and the Official Spokesperson of Bahrain Sameera bin Rajab during the opening of the media center at Shaikh Isa Culture Hall on Thursday.
The Minister, who was joined by Dr. Abdullah Al Buainain, the executive director of elections and IAA Chief Ali Rumaihi, said that this year’s elections will create another landmark turn in the democratic history of the Kingdom.
“The Parliamentary and Municipal Elections 2014 are considered to be a significant democratic national development as part of the His Majesty King’s Reforms Project. This project is now owned by the people of Bahrain. Holding the elections in its set timeframe is of great importance for continuing our democratic march,” she said.
Today, she said, we are getting ready for the 4th legislative elections in a row. Thus, she added, confirming that the people of Bahrain are committed to its democratic march which promotes political diversity and public participation.
“The democratic practice is the accumulated experience of people from different countries and cultures. Our role today is to support this practice and ensure its success. The citizen should practice his constitutional right in electing his representative. Media outlets should also positively play a role through its media coverage that should aim to educate and encourage the people to maintain the principles of democracy and that the election process is a main part of these principles,” she said.
