Manama: The Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan announced on Monday that police are taking all necessary steps to protect the freedom and democracy initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as approved by Bahraini citizens through the National Action Charter.
The Chief said the police are committed to securing the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections using a comprehensive security plan that was carefully drafted and reviewed. Police have been trained in all areas of the plan and are ready to take action against anyone who breaks the law. He said that operational procedures have already been put in place in a number of areas to maintain order and to protect the safety of everyone in Bahrain.
He added that the Interior Ministry works within the confines of the law to identify and arrest those who are involved in vandalism, rioting and terrorism. The Ministry will announce the results of ongoing investigations monitoring those who engage acts of intimidation and in the arson and destruction of election camps and banners.
The Chief stressed that the anti-terrorism law includes tough penalties against those who endanger the lives of others or engage in vandalism and arson attacks meant to intimidate candidates.
