MANAMA: Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s commitment to establish a zero-accident work environment across the plant was reinforced as occupational safety topped the agenda at the Second Contractors’ Safety Coordination meeting.
The meeting provides a viable platform for Alba management to meet some of the company’s main contractors and share with them the steps taken to maintain and improve on-site safety performance. Contractors were also updated on all safety, health and environment related matters, and were given an opportunity to provide their feedback on safety at the work place.
Present at the meeting were members of the Alba Executive Management Team, Directors, representatives from the Engineering Team, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Department and the Alba Labour Union along with senior officials from contracting companies.
“Contractors occupy the same work space as our employees, and it’s vital that they, too, are aware of the safety principles that underline Alba’s work culture. In our journey to achieve a zero-accident work environment, we are keen on closing the gap on safe execution of all tasks and encouraging a sense of ownership with regards to safety. Thus, this meeting with the contractors is a vital key in further strengthening safety across the plant,” Commenting on the safety meeting with the contractors, Line 6 Smelter Project Director, Shawqi Mohd Al Hashimi, said.
Alba has consistently maintained a high track record of safety, health and environment, and over the years, it has won numerous accolades for the same – British Safety Council award, the United Nations Environment Programme Award, the Safety Award from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC award for the Best Environmental Activities by an Industrial Establishment.
