MANAMA: The MENA Centre for Investment in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Tamkeen, and Ebtikar Association is conducting a two-day high level workshop focusing on productivity accounting for the Kingdom of Bahrain.
So far 88 participants have registered for the workshop.
Held on the 21st and 22nd of January at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa, the workshop is specifically designed for ministries involved in issues pertaining to economic growth, industrial development, productivity performance and innovation suitable for engineers and management personnel. The workshop will look into measuring productivity, decomposing productivity growth into its components for policy making purposes, improving the culture for product and process innovation, and including the role of the National System of Innovation (NSI). The workshop will explore, in cooperation with UNIDO and the GCC countries, the possibility of creating a unique centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain for productivity measurement.

As the workshop’s objectives are achieved and implemented for the betterment of policy, innovation and performance we can ensure further growth moving forward and jointly contributing to the national economy,” Tamkeen Chairman and Acting Chief Executive, Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa highlighted the importance of the workshop, said.
The workshop will be overseen by both Dr. Anders Isaksson (UNIDO) and Professor Meryem Duygun of the University of Hull (UK), whose expert research skills in the field will undoubtedly benefit workshop attendees. Dr. Anders currently works in the Research and Statistics Branch in UNIDO, his past research includes his illuminating 2007 report “Why development levels differ: the sources of differential economic growth in a panel of high and low income countries” and his literary review on the Determinants of Total Factor Productivity.
Professor Meryem Duygun is a Professor of Banking and Finance at Hull University Business School who has gained an international reputation for her efficiency research in banking in emerging economies. Professor Duygun has also guest co-edited three special issues in the Journal of Banking and Finance and one special issue in the Journal of Productivity Analysis.
The opening ceremony will be led by Dr. Zakaria Ahmed Hejres, Chairman of Board of Trustees, MENA Centre for Investment, Khalid Ali Rashid Al-Amin, Vice Chairman of Board of Directors, Tamkeen, Dr Hashim Hussein, Head of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Bahrain, Dr. Mohamed Lamine Dhaoui, Director of UNIDO’s Business Investment and Technology Service Branch, and Osama Abdulrahim Al-Khajah, Founder and President of Ebtikar Association who will provide their official statements.
