MANAMA: King Hamad Award for Agricultural Development has been launched in line with an initiative by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Advisory Panel for the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Isa Cultural Centre which was attended by experts and specialists in the agricultural field, representatives from government authorities, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the University of Bahrain, the Arabian Gulf University, farmers and people concerned with the award’s different areas.
Acting Secretary General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa gave a detailed account on the award and its goals, thanking the audience and urging more cooperation to achieve the goals of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.
She pointed out the importance of the award in achieving set up goals pertaining to agricultural development, food security, using modern agricultural technologies, boosting investments in the agricultural field, encouraging entrepreneurship in small and medium enterprises and promoting scientific research in the agricultural field so as to ensure its development and sustainability and create a competitive climate capable of attracting qualified Bahraini workforce.
The award will be granted for the best agricultural project, the best Bahraini farmer and the best agricultural studies and researches. Eligible applicants can participate in one category in every session and applications can be submitted starting from March 1.
Winner of the Best Agricultural Project will receive a cash prize of BD 10,000 while BD 5000 will be up for grab for Best Bahraini Farmer and Best Agricultural Studies and Researches categories.
