Muharraq: Following His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa’s instruction to commence relocating the aviation fuel tanks to Bahrain International Airport, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board joined by CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah and a host of officials from the Civil Aviation Authority and BAC inspected the new location of the fuel farms to be relocated from Arad fuel complex to Bahrain International Airport.
The relocation of the aviation fuel tanks from Arad area to Bahrain International Airport is a key initiative undertaken by the government in response to the demand and requirements of the immediate community and in line with international health and environmental standards.
Investigations are already underway in regards to the technical demands of moving the fuel tanks to the airport while maintaining operations efficiency. According to the initial plan, the relocation will be completed within 24 to 30 months.
“We will work diligently to ensure that his Highness’s instructions are met as soon as possible. We have already invited a number of engineering consultancy companies, to share their feedback about the best plans for the aviation fuel tanks which can provide ultimate security and safety to everyone involved. We are also currently working on forming a national company owned by BAC and NOGA Holding to build and manage the tanks after the relocation,” His Excellency Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board said.
An executive plan is being drawn by the ministerial committee for construction and infrastructure which will be responsible for the urgent implementation and coordination between the different related parties to announce a defined and consistent agenda. The ministries involved in this project are: The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
