DUBAI: Thousands of people have reportedly evacuated in the wee hours on Saturday as world’s tallest residential tower in Dubai’s buzzing district engulfed by huge fire.
There are no reports of causalities so far and the authorities were investigating about the exact cause of the fire at the Torch Tower in Dubai Marina area.
The fire broke out at 50th floor of the building and rapidly spread to other floors but fortunately the residents quickly managed to leave their apartments.
Strong gusts helped the blaze to spread across the 336.1m high building and authorities were quick to reach the scene and managed the evacuation of residents in an orderly manner while fire was also brought under control by Civil Defense.
The 86-storey Torch tower is on the northeast end of the densely populated district, which is packed with multi-storey skyscrapers. As a precaution adjoining buildings were also evacuated by the Civil Defense and authorities also cordoned off the main roads and the surrounding areas.
