Dubai: Thousands of residents who were evacuated from the Torch Tower after fire broke out in the early hours on Saturday returned home after less than 24 hours of the incident, according to a statement issued by developers.
Select Group, the developer of The Torch in Dubai Marina, where a fire broke out in the early hours on Saturday, expressed its thanks to all parties for bringing the situation swiftly under control, allowing residents to return to their homes within hours of the fire starting.
Select Group commended Dubai Authorities and Kingfield Owners Association for their incredibly swift response in helping to bring the situation under control. Over a thousand people were safely evacuated from the building while a strong sandstorm raged outside.
Although the incredibly strong winds fanned the fire, however the building’s fire safety systems and evacuation protocols worked as planned and the fire was swiftly brought under control. At the time of going to press the residents of the tower were progressively being allowed back into the tower by the authorities.
Representatives of Select Group were present on site since news of the incident broke out in the early hours of the morning. The first concern was providing any support required to Kingfield OA and the authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents and their families.
The Torch was completed and handed over in the summer of 2011. Kingfield Owners Association manager have set up a support centre on the 97th floor of the adjacent Princess Tower for all affected residents.
