MANAMA: Mercedes-Benz starts the year off with a bang by announcing the all new Mercedes-AMG GT at an exciting launch event that took place on the Saturday the 21st of February at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. After many years of innovating, developing and meticulously examining every detail, the revolutionary sports car shows a new shift in direction for Mercedes-Benz.
The Mercedes-AMG GT has strong character that perfectly elicits its poise and athleticism. Between the stylish design and the incredible performance, this vehicle is one that will drive through any competition. After all, the motto is “handcrafted by racers.”
“With the new GT we are positioning Mercedes-AMG even more aggressively than to date as a dynamic sports car brand,” Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said.
“With its technological substance, the Mercedes-AMG GT fulfills our high aspirations with regard to driving dynamics, agility and sportiness.”
The car’s stylish design is an instant crowd pleaser. The GT has a long, sweeping bonnet in the front that provides a strong presence and offers some dynamics when compared to the more compact, yet powerful rear. An elegant and distinctive glasshouse effect brings a soft curve that perfectly shapes the top. The bottom closely hugs the road as it supports the body. It is simply a beauty from any angle.
The driving dynamics of the GT are unmatched. Due to the unique weight distribution of the vehicle, a ratio of 47:53, the rear hauls most of the load, despite the fact that the car’s appearance may suggest otherwise. The front mid-engine is connected via a lightweight drive shaft to the dual clutch transmission on the rear axle. The engine itself is a different kind of masterpiece. The 4.0-liter V8 biturbo operates using dry sump lubrication to achieve optimum performance. Using the dual clutch transmission is the best way to test the engine’s superiority. There are three pre-set transmission modes, the C, S and S+ that offer an even more thrilling ride. The sportier the mode, the higher agility, engine speed and shorter shift times between gears.
Aside from the exterior and the robotics, the interior cockpit is exquisite on its own. The navigation screen rests atop the four air vents and provides more curves that draw the eye to where the magic happens. The striking gear box is a futuristic display that provides the easiest access to the transmission. The AMG GT is not complete without the hands-on performance steering wheel that houses built in controls and paddle shifters. It is a magnificently designed dashboard that is tailor-made for those feel-good vibes. Its disposition holds true to its name.
