MANAMA: With Bahraini gold has emerged as one of the best in terms of quality and finished jewllery in craftsmanship, the gold demand registered a substantial increase reaching 8.7 tonnes in 2014, a 15 per cent up over 2013.
This was disclosed by the officials during the Pearl, Gold and Jewelry sector committee of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) meeting held at the Beitul Tajjar.
During the meeting the officials from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce made a detailed presentation on the procedures related to certification of gold. The meeting was held at Al Majlis Hall on the Ground Floor of Bait Al Tijjar.
The BCCI board member and head of the committee Ms. Deema Al Haddad highlighted the challenges and opportunities being faced by the gold, pearl & jewelry merchants in Bahrain.
“We are currently in discussions over the issue of the security in and around Manama and soon the issue of security will be addressed,” Deema Al Haddad in a reply to a question said.
She also highlighted the BCCI’s input on the issues related to the immigration and family visas etc., for the gold and jewellery merchants in Bahrain.
The presentation of the Directorate of Precious Metals and Gemstones Testing of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce covered all important aspects of this segment of the business.
