JAW: Director of Reformation and Rehabilitation Center announced that violence and vandalism by a number of inmates and their families at the visiting center at Jaw prison today had been brought under control.
He said that upon arrival to the center, some family members of inmates asked an official to allow one of their relatives to go inside with them. Their request was denied as the relative had no ID on him.
The Director said the families and some of the inmates began rioting and vandalized parts of the building. Inside the prison, some inmates damaged parts of the wards; they also held a male nurse supervisor hostage. Police acted to restore order. The director said that some of the family members were arrested as well as the inmates involved and the inciters. The Public Prosecution was notified. The Director concluded by saying that officials had documented the incidents on video.
