MANAMA: Media has a wide scope of attracting investments, preserving cultural heritage and strengthening cultural bonds, according to the Information Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al-Hammadi.
The Minister emphasized the keenness for developing the media sector on the basis of openness, responsibility and competitiveness.
He was speaking at the event of the Bahrain-German Friendship Society in its monthly meeting at the Sheraton Hotel, he underscored the role of an advanced strategy to promote the reform and modernisation process, boost sustainable development and national unity and foster inter-cultural and religious dialogue.
He stressed at the meeting, which was attended by members of the diplomatic corps and the society, Bahrain’s keenness to avail of the German expertise in the media and telecommunications sector as well as the technical fields.
The aim, he explained, is to keep abreast of cutting-edge media technologies and cope with the ongoing development and democratic achievements brought about by the royal reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The Information Affairs Minister pointed out keenness to lure specialised investments in the media field according to professional and moral regulations stipulated by international laws and conventions. He lauded relations of friendship and cooperation between Bahrain and Germany and their progress at all levels since launching them in 1972. He asserted that these relations gained momentum with the historic visit of HM the King to Germany in 2008, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s to Bahrain in 2010 and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s to Berlin in 2011.
The Information Affairs Minister underscored the importance of bilateral links in fostering peace and security given both countries pivotal and influential role regionally and internationally as well as their moderate and balanced foreign policies. He stressed both countries’ efforts in fighting terrorism and promoting inter-cultural dialogue, pointing out Bahrain’s active role as a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab League and international organisations.
President of the Bahrain-German Friendship Society Taraq Wafa thanked the Information Affairs Minister for his keynote speech, praising solid ties binding the two friendly countries and the society’s efforts to bolster them since its inception in 2000.
