MANAMA: Bahrain’s United Nations resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Peter Grohmann has urged Arab countries to carefully study the future challenges and to develop strategies to meet the needs of future development sectors.
Grohmann also called for raising awareness of balancing the relationship between education outcomes and labour market needs.
He, in a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) on the sidelines of the final session of the 2nd Arab High-Level Forum on Sustainable Development, stressed supporting Bahrain’s sustainable development plans and all national partners, while it is preparing to implement the post-2015 development agenda.
He pointed out the youth issue, as a future challenge to be met by Arab countries, and engaging them in sustainable development, as well as providing them with proper education to be qualified to actively enter the labour market.
He noted the need to push the process of development in all areas, including developing new policies and legislations that contribute to achieving development goals and identifying cadres’ future needs. Accordingly community awareness will be raised and education and training will be channeled into the same needs.
He said that UNESCO and Ministry of Education are working together to uplift the quality of education in Bahrain prepare future generations capable of taking on challenges in the labor market.
