MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain yesterday dispatched the second batch of relief assistance from the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Nepalese people, comprising relief, medical supplies and tents was sent to the quake-stricken country.
The second shipment was an additional support to the survivors in Kathmandu camp who lost their homes and was in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with support from HM the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs cum Chairman of the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa said in compliance with His Majesty the King’s instructions to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the tragic disaster in the Federal People’s Republic of Nepal in the aftermath of the earthquake, and in view of the increasing number of victims, the homeless and wounded survivors of the earthquake which is the worst in more than eighty years, the first shipment was sent and at the same time its arrival to the needy disaster-stricken people was followed up by the team which arrived at Kathmandu camp to deliver the assistance materials to the relevant authorities.
His Highness said this humanitarian assistance comes in implementation of the Royal directives of His Majesty the King emanating from the humane bonds binding Bahrain with various peoples of the world and in reaffirmation of the friendship ties between Bahrain and Nepal.
RCO Secretary-General Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed said as a result of what was felt by the Bahraini delegation during their first visit in terms of dire need to provide and extend a helping hand and after consulting with the relevant relief authorities, the second shipment was shipped which comprises about 50 tonnes of emergency medical and relief supplies and tents.
As a personal initiative, 16-year old Karan and 14-year old Wakil and in solidarity with the Nepalese people, voluntarily collected assorted foodstuffs, clothing, blankets, and raised funds from their family, friends and other philanthropists to assist the Nepalese people in the wake of the tragic earthquake.
Karan and Wakil said their charitable deed emanated from innate desire to provide assistance to the large number of quake survivors in their country Nepal. They decided to cooperate with the Royal Charity Organisation to support their compatriots, and their initiative has been welcomed by the Royal Charity Organisation which sponsored the consigning and delivery of relief supplies and foodstuffs collected by both volunteers.
