MANAMA: The authorities in Manama on Wednesday said that they had identified several suspects involved in the deadliest attack on the public security killing two officers and injuring other six.
Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan said that several suspects in the Sitra terror blast had been arrested after they were identified in the investigation launched immediately after the heinous bombing.
Al Hassan earlier said that two policemen died on Tuesday morning in Sitra when a bus carrying policemen at the end of their shift at the Sitra police station came under attack near Granada Primary Girls’ School on Road One by a group of terrorists who remotely-detonated a bomb planted there.
Six other policemen who sustained serious and medium injuries were taken to hospital and initial reports indicated they were in stable condition.
“Various security and legal measures were taken following the incident, including a security deployment and the activation of security points to determine the movement of people in certain areas to ensure the safety of the public and the forces.
“A crime scene team was assigned to the location to examine the evidence and the Public Prosecution was notified.
“Such terrorist acts will not stop policemen from carrying out their duties and taking all security and legal procedures against anyone who puts the lives of citizens and residents at risk or attacks public or private property,” Al Hassan said Public Security Chief, Maj-Gen Tariq Al-Hassan, has offered sincere condolences to the wise leadership, loyal Bahrainis and families of the martyrs of duty Naveed Ahmed Nazar and Hamid Rasool Arif who died on Tuesday morning as a result of a terrorist attack in Sitra. May God rest their souls in peace, give patience to their families and help the injured recover fast.
As part of the Interior Ministry resolve to inform the public on security developments, Public Security Chief stated that at 6:29 am on Tuesday July 28, while a bus carrying policemen at the end of their shift at the Sitra police station was near the Gurnata Primary Girl School on Road 1, a group of terrorists remotely-detonated a bomb planted there. This caused the death of two policemen, and six others sustained serious and medium injuries. The wounded were taken to hospital and initial reports state they are stable.
The police said that various security and legal steps were taken following the incident, including security deployment and the activation of security points to determine the movement of people in certain areas to ensure the safety of the public and the forces. A crime scene team was assigned to the location to examine the evidence and the Public Prosecution was notified. An investigation was also launched to identify and bring the offenders to justice.
Such terrorist acts will not stop policemen from carrying out their duties and take all security and legal procedures against anyone that endangers lives of citizens and residents or attacks public and private property.
