MANAMA: The retail outlets including the hypermarkets are required to display the bulk and per unit prices on each item at display in the store. The new initiative which is already being implement the LULU Hyper markets in Bahrain is a part of the new law promulgated by the Ministry and Industry, Commerce and Tourism to bring more transparency for end users.
Under the guidance of the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Mr. Zayed R. Alzayani, the Consumer protection Directorate and in cooperation with Lulu Hypermarket launched an initiative to price goods per unit in conjunction with the opening of the new branch of Lulu Hypermarkets in Galleria Complex in Zinj. The price of goods are according to the new initiative by announcing retail price and measurement price unit (height, weight, wholesale, size, number,) for each goods as well as wholesale goods or goods that are within promotional campaigns.
In the press conference which is organized by the Consumer Protection Directorate and in the presence of Regional Director of Lulu Hypermarket Mr. Juzer Rupawala the Director of Consumer Protection Mr. Snan Ali Aljabery explained that this initiative will soon be implemented to all retail and wholesale outlets.
“The initiative is based on one of the most prominent material in the Consumer Protection Law No. (35) of 2012, specifically article “5” which states that (all suppliers shall advertise the product’s price and indicate the warranty period according to the rules and guidance to be determined by a Minister’s resolution).
Aljabery confirmed the implementation of this initiative will be optional in all sales outlets at the moment and will be binding for all suppliers in the near future.
“This new pricing initiative of the Consumer Protection Directorate offers additional transparency and we believe that it gives the customer better budgetary control over his/her shopping. We are always ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in this and other initiatives to encourage the best practice that will enhance competition between the suppliers of goods and services,” said, Mr. Juzer Rupawala.
