MANAMA: Syed Altaf Azim, the Chairman of the board of directors, Al-Saqafa The Pakistan Association has congratulated the community living in Bahrain on the auspicious occasion of the 72nd Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Chairman Al Saqafa in his message highlighted the importance of commemorating Independence Day which is also known as Yom-e-Istiqlal, being observed on 14 August every year, the day before Pakistan became as an independent country in 1947 based on border lines created by the British during the end of their rule of India.
The golden words of Quaid-e-Azam, the Father of the Nation “Unity, Faith, and Discipline” continued to be an inspiration for every Pakistani and served as the key pillars of the foundation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Al-Saqafa The Pakistan Association was founded in 1993 by a group of prominent Pakistanis, led by Mohamed Afdhal Najeeb, who felt that the community needed its own welfare organization and a social and cultural forum. The group also integrated prominent community personalities including Dr. Abdul Qahir, Noor Pathan, Imtiaz Pervez, Syed Wahajuddin Ahmed, S.M. Iqbal, Shakeel Anwar, Dr. Haroon Memon and many others.
Al-Saqafa, over the years, has had maintained a healthy tradition for organising literary nights, BBQ night for member’s families, members’ family night, charity programmes and educational symposiums and has offered scholarships for the needy students. A significant portion of funds and contributions donated by the local charities and some is retained for financing future events.
Since its formation, Al-Saqafa has had the honour of inviting a number of the literary figures of Urdu language from Pakistan to Bahrain and India including giants like Ahmed Faraz, Amjad Islam Amjad, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi, Shahzad Ahmed, Murtaza Barlas, Qateel Shifai, Jagan Nath Azad, Hamayat Ali Shaer, Peerzada Qasim and many others. Similarly, many prominent artists also came to Bahrain under the banner of Al-Saqafa, including Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, S.B. John, Mehnaz, Sajjad Ali, Tehseen Jafri and several others.
On the role of Al-Saqafa, the Chairman said that Al Saqafa has emerged as one of the key organisations in the Kingdom of Bahrain for organising the entertainment, cultural, social and literary events since its establishment 25 years ago.
Celebrating the Silver Jubilee of its formation, Al Saqafa has achieved a distinctive place among the local social and cultural clubs by successfully presenting a number of literary symposiums and light classical musical programmes. Some of the programmes included Zia Mohyeddin show, an evening with Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, an evening with Anwar Maqsood and Tina Sani and Raat Gaye with Ammar Masood and Murtaza Barlas, Aahang-e-Barlas, Mazahiya Mushaira and an evening with Anwer Maqsood and Saadia Malik, Qawali delight by Amjad Sabri and Aahang-e- Noor Pathan was organized successfully.
