MANAMA: Under the theme Lines of Light, the first group exhibition of the art works of Bahrain Women Printmakers will be opened at Albareh Art Gallery in Adliya on 23 April 2019. The exhibition is organized by Jehan Saleh Printmaking Studio and sponsored by Bank ABC.
Lines of Light features the works of the seven members of Bahrain Women Printmakers: Dawiya AlAlaweiyat, Mona Al Moataz, Zakeya Zada, Mayssa Al Sowaidi, Marwa Rashid Al Khalifa and Lina Mohammed Kamal, as well as works by founder and exhibition organizer, Jehan Saleh.
Bahrain Women Printmakers is a unique initiative that came about organically in the studio of Bahrain-based Egyptian artist and art educator, Jehan Saleh. As artists trained with Saleh to learn the techniques of linocut, collagraph, woodcut and monoprint, a number of them came together naturally, learning and producing art together, critiquing each other’s work and developing a passion for the medium.
Saleh also sensed a palpable camaraderie among them. It is this group that inspired her to create Bahrain Women Printmakers, a platform where women can come together to learn, and to produce art that is new, experimental and fearless. She has recently launched Jehan Saleh Printmaking Studio where she offers printmaking workshops for adults and children.
The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Khaled Kawan, Group CEO of Bank ABC. The sponsorship of this exhibition comes as part of the Bank’s initiatives to support diversity and the empowerment of women.
Lines of Light will remain open at Albareh Art Gallery till 10th, May, 2019.
