Manama: The 6th meeting of the Manama Souq Development Committee, chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), Nader Al Moayyed, was held on Thursday, 31 October 2019, at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Center.
The meeting witnessed the approval of the minutes of the last meeting, as well as the reviewing of the progress of the Manama Souq Development Project master plan, including changing the storefronts and signage, as well as restoring the façade of old buildings in the area. In addition, the meeting included a discussion on the proposal of launching a pedestrian walkway and installing a Wi-Fi internet network in the Souq.
“We are working closely with various government and private entities to ensure the timely completion of the Manama Souq Development Project to the highest standards, in order to provide both merchants and visitors with the optimal experience. We look forward to completing this project which will preserve the long-standing history of Manama Souq by upgrading the area with modern additions,” Nader Al Moayyed CEO of BTEA, said.
Held periodically between all concerned parties, these meetings aim to discuss the latest updates of this pivotal project aimed at supporting the revitalization of the local tourism sector, and increasing its contribution to the national economy.
The Manama Souq Development Committee is comprised of representatives affiliated to the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Urban Planning and Development Authority, the Economic Development Board, the Capital Governorate, and the Capital Municipality Council, as well as a number of Manama Souq traders.
