Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The Kingdom of Bahrain has recorded a recovery rate of 83 per cent from the COVID-19 infections, thanks to the medical protocols and effective treatment model of the country.
Dr. Waleed Al Manea Dr. Al Manea, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and member of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), while providing statistics on nation-wide bed capacity said total capacity of centers across the Kingdom is around 8357 beds out of which only 2839, or close to one third, is being used.
According to the statistics, two third capacity of the total capacity is still available for the patients of the COVID-19 across the country.
He was speaking as the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) held a press conference on Wednesday at the Crown Prince Centre for Training and Medical Research at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Hospital to highlight COVID-19 developments and emphasised the importance of strictly following all measures to ensure the safety of the community.
“The total number of self-isolated patients is around 1814 and all those who opted for the self-isolation are getting medical help, treatment from both the public and private health sector services providers. The death rate as per centage of the infections is recorded as low as 0.32 per cent of death rate among the infected cases,” Dr. Waleed said.
Dr Waleed also mentioned the recent letter from Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General WHO, who applauded the Kingdom’s efforts in combating the pandemic COVID-19 and said the Kingdom’s approach and handling the pandemic won praise from the WHO Chief.
Lt. Col. Manaf Al Qahtani, the Infectious Disease Consultant and Microbiologist at the BDF Hospital and member of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), highlighted the results of the recent visit of an Italian health officials’ delegation to Bahrain.
Dr Manaf also shed the light on the various aspects of the Kingdom’s scientific and global collaboration in handling the pandemic.

Replying to a question about facilitating access to convalescent plasma, antibody-rich products that are collected from eligible donors who have recovered from COVID-19, said that Kingdom of Bahrain has been working with local expertise and international partners on this aspect of treatment of the COVID-19 and in a week time thing would be much clear. The experts globally are trying to determine its safety and efficacy via clinical trials before routinely administering convalescent plasma to patients with COVID-19.
Bahrain is actively engaging with researchers to discuss the possibility of collaboration on the development of a master protocol for the use of convalescent plasma.
Lt. Col. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Ansari, the Project Manager of Public Hospital Autonomy at the Supreme Council of Health also shared the statistics showing an improvement across the ladder of the health services model. Dr Jameela Al Salman, Consultant of Infectious Diseases at Salmaniya Medical Complex said that the Kingdom has achieved a landmark over 600,000 tests in the country.
