Manama: Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly, President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) said the construction of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City was progressing as planned with completion expected by the end of December, 2021.
“Despite the challenges we are facing due to the spread of the novel Coronavirus +Covid-19+ pandemic which have certainly affected the progress of the construction works, AGU is working hand-by-hand with the contractor to sketch a plan B to complete it on time. Meanwhile, we are tirelessly working to be ready for operating the City and put the recruitment plans as we want to attract unique human resources,” the president said after touring the project site to view the progress of the construction.
“We are striving to have the city added among Bahrain’s health insurance system for three reasons; firstly, to achieve the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud when he instructed to build the city to serve the people of Bahrain and the GCC society. Secondly, AGU is operating under governmental instructions from the Ministry of Educations and the Higher Education Councils in the GCC states to meet the aspirations of the people in this region and this will reflect on having King Abdullah Medical City working in line with the requirements of the health system in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Finally, the City will be equipped with rare green buildings that will meet the LEED Gold standards, thus allowing it to provide the best medical services in a healthy environment,” Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly, said.
It’s worth noting that the giant medical city project is being funded through a SR One billion grant from the late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and will be built on a 100-hectare plot donated by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain.
The City will have 300 beds, a number of research centers as well as a complete set of outpatient clinics and 15 operating theatres.
