Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: As the numbers of the COVID-19 contact to active cases upward trends have been sustaining for the past many days, the authorities have issued a stark warning on Wednesday urging people to follow the health guidelines to bend the curve in a week by October 1st.
The National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in its briefing on Wednesday highlighted the salient features of the strict implementation of health and safety guidelines aiming at mitigating the infections.
The sustained rise in the cases of the COVID-19 since the Muharram holy month and the 90 per cent or more cases on each day of contact to the active cases prompted the National Task Force to people to adhere to health and safety guidelines with a tentative target of one week to bring the increasing infections under control through concerted efforts and responsibility towards combating the pandemic.
The statistics released on Tuesday sustain the upward trends in infections. Out of 10686 COVID-19 tests carried out on 22 September 2020, 650 new cases have been detected among 145 expatriate workers, 497 new cases are contacts of active cases, and 8 are travel related. There were 741 recoveries from the COVID-19, taking the total number of total recoveries to 59367.
The irresponsible behaviours across the many segments of the society has had contributed towards the spread of virus merely not adhering to health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health Bahrain.
This irrational approach towards national responsibility starting from a group of a people or a family can contribute towards surge in infections, putting the media staff, and health workers at risk and extra pressure on the health system of the Kingdom which has so far done a tremendous job in combating the COVID-19 since pandemic outbreak globally.
The nation-wide tests reaching close to 1.34 million and number of active cases receiving treatment 131 and 50 patients in a critical stage. There were three deaths taking the total death tally to 227 by Tuesday. Two more deaths have been confirmed by the Ministry on Wednesday afternoon taking the total number to 229.
The Ministry of Health has urged for an additional volunteers of 1700 for vaccine trials. The Kingdom has already completed 6000 volunteers target and looking for an additional 1700 individuals, the Task Force confirms.
The Taskforce during its briefing underscored the importance of social responsibility to safeguard individuals, families and the community, by vigilantly adhering to all health guidelines aimed at mitigating the spread of the virus, reducing infection rates and flattening the curve. The Taskforce noted that the virus does not discriminate between race, religion, or faith and therefore unified efforts are required to ensure a commitment to following all precautionary measures aimed at preserving the health of the community.
The Taskforce added that official statistics have revealed a spike in active COVID-19 cases due to an increase in social and religious gatherings during the Ashura holidays, as a result of non-compliance to precautionary health measures that have been put in place in partnership with the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate and the heads of the Ma’atams in Bahrain.
