Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The Kingdom of Bahrain has achieved yet another milestone of completing two million PCR COVID-19 tests.
This achievement has put Bahrain at the parity among the few nations world-wide those who are successfully spearheading national testing campaigns to trace and control the spread the COVID-19 virus.
Dr. Walid Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, while addressing the Press conference of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (COVID-19), on Wednesday said that the milestone in testing has helped in winning accolades from the WHO and other global organisations.
“The Kingdom is now among few countries which have covered major portions of their respective population for conducting COVID-19 Swab PCR tests in response to the pandemic in the past nine months,” he said.
Dr. Walid Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health was also joined by Lt. Col. Dr. Manaf Al Qahtani-Member of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Dr. Jameela Al Salman-Consultant of Infectious and Internal Diseases at Salmaniya Medical Complex during the remote media briefing held remotely.
“The Kingdom’s nation-wide testing strategy has yielded another positive indicator of achieving 50 per cent of the total population and yet around one thousand COVID-19 tests are being conducted every day. The tests are conducted on random and target community based approach bringing the spread of the virus under control,” Dr. Waleed, added.
Dr Waleed, and members of the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), extended their gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for a Royal gesture and directives to vaccinate citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The members also thanked His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister for the leadership, support and leading the National Task Force since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The Task Force members applauded the role being played by the frontline health workers, doctors, nurses and others who around the clock are ready to serve.
