Manama: The S&P Global BMI Shariah gained 12.9% during Q4 2020, slightly underperforming the conventional S&P Global BMI, in part due to the strong performance of the financial sector, which gained nearly 25% during the period. Despite this, the S&P Global BMI Shariah gained 27.9% YTD, a double-digit advantage of 11.2% ahead of the conventional benchmark.
The S&P 500 Shariah gained 10.0% during Q4 2020, pushing its YTD gain to 23.9%, outperforming the S&P 500 by 550 bps.
Having fallen significantly during Q1 2020, MENA equity performance improved considerably during Q4 2020, as the S&P Pan Arab Composite turned positive YTD, gaining 1.2%.
The Dow Jones Sukuk Total Return Index returned 1.9% for the quarter and 7.9% YTD.
