Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has won the presidency of the Arab Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AMMAF), following the endorsement of Mohammed Ali Qambar, President of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF), to lead the first board of directors of AMMAF during the inaugural meeting of the Federation, which was held at Wyndham Garden Hotel in Manama.
His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
His Highness affirmed that winning the AMMAF presidency is an honorable occasion that reaffirms the Kingdom of Bahrain’s good reputation and notable position in the Arab, continental and international sports circles, especially within the sport of mixed martial arts, thanks to the patronage and support of HM the King and care of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who pushed this sport towards occupying an advanced position on the world map.
HH Shaikh Khalid underlined that the sincere efforts and insightful strategy of HH Shaikh Nasser for the development of sports in Bahrain have contributed to the revitalization of the sector in a way that raised the level of sports, including combat sports, and pushed it towards achieving honorable results which were added to the Kingdom’s rich sports record.
“We established the sport of mixed martial arts in Bahrain according to our vision, which included many goals, including global spread and holding positions in various Arab, continental and international federations to enhance the Bahraini presence in decision-making and contributing to the continuing efforts to develop and advance this sport, as it has become the focus of many, and place it on the threshold of entering the Olympic Games competitions in the near future,” HH Shaikh Khalid, said.
“A few days ago, the Kingdom of Bahrain was able to win the confidence of the national federations of Sambo from West Asia, which granted Bahrain the presidency of the West Asian Sambo Federation, and today it is gaining the confidence of the national federations of mixed martial arts at the Arab level in the inaugural meeting, giving it the presidency of AMMAF. This reflects the development and progress that sports have reached in the Kingdom, through which it has achieved great successes, imposing its name strongly in the field of mixed martial arts, both continentally and internationally.”
HH Shaikh Khalid congratulated the Bahrain Combat Sports Council (BCSC), headed by HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and praised their efforts by working to implement the goals of the vision drawn by His Highness, which aims to raise the level of combat sports and push it to record new achievements to be added to the series of accomplishments attained by these sports for the Kingdom. HH Shaikh Khalid also congratulated BMMAF President Mohammed Ali Qambar and wished him the best of luck on his new mission.
