Manama: First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, has directed to disburse bonuses to the Bahrain National Handball Team players following their historic victory over hosts, Japan, in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The initiative is in recognition of the heroic performance of the players in the tournament, in general, and in today’s match, in particular, and their keenness to honour the kingdom.
BOC Secretary-General Mohammed Hassan Al Nusuf expressed deepest thanks and appreciation to H Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, hailing his unwavering support to national teams, and constant keenness to honour athletes in order to motivate them.
He added that HH Shaikh Khalid’s directives to disburse winning rewards to the players will motivate them during their next match against Egypt, adding that BOC will begin implementing HH Shaikh Khalid’s instructions.
The Bahrain national handball team on Friday beat host Japan, 32-30 in the fourth round of Group B as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The national team thus grabbed total 2 points in the fourth place while Japan remain in the bottom of the Group B table, with no points so far.
Bahrain will play Egypt in the fifth round of Group B, while Japan will take on Portugal on August 1.
