Manama: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cyprus on Monday signed several memoranda of understandings (MoUs) paving the way to explore avenues of co-operation in all vital sectors.
Both sides agreed to work on developing the relations in the areas of political and diplomatic ties, finance, trade, investments, tourism, oil, green energy, agriculture, sustainable water management and preservation, aviation, tourism, climate change, exchange of expertise in agriculture and other areas of common interest.
This came as Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and his 22-member strong delegation arrived on an official visit and was received by HM King Hamad bin Isa Khalifa at the Gudhaibiya Palace.
The MoUs signing ceremonies were held on the sidelines of the Ministerial level bilateral meetings held in Manama on Monday at the Four Seasons Hotel and the details and scope of the MoUs were announced in separate Press briefings by the Ministers of both sides.
The two heads of states also chaired the bilateral talks held between delegations of the two countries.
“The visit takes place in the framework of a government decision to develop bilateral relations with Arab Gulf countries,” an official announcement said.
“A Memorandum of Understanding on Financial and Technical Cooperation and a Visa Waiver Agreement for diplomatic, special and official passports was also signed,” it added.
The government considers the further development of relations with Bahrain as particularly important since it enhances the multilateral approach of its foreign policy, the official statement said.
The President also discussed Bahrain`s support of our country in the Islamic Cooperation Organisation, as well as of his Climate Change Initiative, it added
He is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides and Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Natasa Pilides.
As well as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Costas Kadis, Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios and other officials.
