MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain’s forward-looking policies and the public, private partnership (PPP) model has not only helped in creating necessary ecosystems but also optimize the benefits of technological innovation.
“While competition is a good sign and the government’s regulatory role remains indisputable, there are huge opportunities to collaborate in broad ecosystems that can bring together the public and private sectors. Bahrain demonstrates how progressive government policies and private sector intervention can create a win-win scenario for all,” Ethan Sun, CEO, Huawei Bahrain, said.
“Data and how we leverage this resource will shape our society this century. This is especially true for Bahrain, which has emerged as a regional pioneer in applying digital technologies to address socio-economic challenges and creating new economic opportunities.
“Next-generation ICT networks are critical components of this evolving digital economy, providing the essential infrastructure and services to all sectors of the economy. We can already see the vital role of 5G networks in enabling new business models and verticals in Bahrain. The Kingdom will be among the first economies to reap benefits of 5G being one of the first to embrace this technology.
“The energy sector is an excellent example of where Bahrain can generate new value from its natural resources by adopting 5G-enabled solutions. During the Global Oil and Gas Summit last year, Huawei launched Intelligent Oil and Gas Fields solution designed to help oil and gas enterprises to go digital. The solution aims to help oil and gas companies cope with the risks and costs, address data silos, quickly respond to emergencies and build robust information security systems. Being a global leader Huawei focuses on security and efficiency requirements, helping to increase reserve and production, improving efficiency, reducing costs and carbon emissions, and ensuring operational safety. Such innovations promise healthy revenue growth for local operators. Huawei is committed to collaborating closely with operators and partners to create simplified, green, and intelligent ICT infrastructure, allowing operators to expand their 5G networks. Moving forward, we see significant new opportunities for operators in XtoB, solutions which integrate 5G, premium private lines, intelligent cloud networks, data centers, and cloud. Huawei believes XtoB opportunities will accelerate the industry’s digital transformation as well as growth of Bahrain’s digital economy. But the pace of transformation is only likely to accelerate. With that in mind, the telecommunication industry must not just rely on recent achievements but look at new strategies to create advanced and sustainable networks. To support this transformation, Huawei launched GUIDE, a blueprint through which operators can create a better digital economy together with their ecosystem stakeholders. GUIDE defines the future network based on ubiquitous gigabit connectivity, speeding up ultra-automation to address uncertainties, providing intelligent computing and networks as a service, offering differentiated experiences on-demand, and enabling sustainability with green ICT.
“Recently, Huawei highlighted how these technologies come together through our E2E offering at MEET ICT and BITEX 2022, the Bahrain international technology exhibition. As a major partner in Bahrain’s ICT ecosystem, such events allow Huawei to share and explore the avenues of co-operation in innovative technologies with its partners that can benefit vertical industries and various economic sectors through the latest digital solutions.
“These innovations require a robust ICT skills pipeline to thrive. As a leading technology solutions provider to Bahraini enterprises, telecommunication providers, and small businesses, Huawei complement government efforts in developing ICT talent in the Kingdom. Huawei has therefore established a roadmap for helping develop ICT talent under the Bahrain Drive on Talent initiative.
“Additionally, Huawei ICT Academy is also building an ecosystem of aligned tertiary education institutions to advance ICT training through Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy program (HAINA). Huawei Bahrain has also partnered and signed agreements with leading universities in the Kingdom to build the Huawei Network Academy provides students access to advanced ICT training while training teachers as trainers. However, the increased adoption of the latest advanced digital technologies, such as Cloud, AI, 5G, leads to an inevitable rise in cybersecurity risks and challenges. Huawei, therefore, calls on industry partners to work together to develop unified cyber security standards and continue to explore best practices for building security and trust. Showing its commitment to such challenges, Huawei has long worked with organizations like the GSMA, 3GPP, OIC-CERT, and other industry stakeholders to examine emerging cybersecurity risks and promote independent certifications and standards such as the GSMA/3GPP NESAS Security Assurance Specifications and GSMA 5G Cybersecurity Knowledge Base. In addition, Huawei is now driving the adoption of the OIC 5G Security Framework developed by the OIC-CERT 5G Security Working Group to enhance cybersecurity measures proportionate to the risk landscape emerging from digital technology advances.”
