Mahmood Rafique, Editor: HE Zayed Al Zayani, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, officially opened the flagship store of Danube Supermarket in Al Liwan in Hamala.
The opening ceremony was attended by BinDawood Holding, the owners and operators of Danube Supermarkets and Hypermarkets, the board members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman and board members of the Seef Properties, owners and operators of Al Liwan. Danube Bahrain, covers over 5,305 square meters, the hypermarket project is estimated at BD3 million.
HE Minister applauded Danube being one of the pioneering and leading names in shopping stores and hypermarkets in Saudi and opening their first store in Bahrain as part of their regional expansion.
“We welcome Danube to Bahrain and expect more stores across the Kingdom that reflects Bahrain’s proactive approach to attract businesses and foreign investments in all vital areas of the economy,” HE the Minister told reporters following the opening ceremony and visit to the store.
Danube supermarket at Al Liwan is the brand’s first branch in Bahrain and the first store outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dawood Holding, one of the leading grocery retail operators of hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the opening of its first international store, Danube Supermarket in Al Liwan, which was developed by Seef Properties in Hamala area in the Northern Governorate.
Danube Company for Foodstuffs and Commodities’ (Danube) new hypermarket in Bahrain marks the onset of the firm’s international expansions, Ahmad BinDawood, chief executive officer of BinDawood Holding Company, said.
“The new planned opening will enhance the company’s brand name via the introduction of a new shopping experience,” BinDawood added.
“Bahrain is a promising market that underpins several opportunities especially in Al Liwan Project,” said BinDawood, adding that the Danube store is the largest hypermarket in the project.

Danube Company, a 99%-owned subsidiary of BinDawood Holding Co., had signed a lease agreement with a real estate development firm Seef Properties Bahrain to open a Danube hypermarket.
The supermarket offers Al Liwan visitors a unique shopping experience through a selection of high-quality products, exclusive imported goods, speciality foods, fresh juice, and fish sections, as well as fresh bakery items.
