MANAMA: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: The Kingdom of Bahrain is expecting positive outcome in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics takes place in France later this month.
Paris 2024 Olympics are significant as France is hosting the Olympic games after one hundred years since the last games hosted by this top European tourist destination.
This came as the participation of 14-member strong Olympic squad announced during a Press conference addressed by His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Eric Giraud-Telme, and Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary General of the Olympic Committee and Executive Director.
The Olympic Committee, the director of the mission, Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Ghaffar, several heads and members of the participating sports federations, and media.
The Bahrain Olympic Committee revealed the list of athletes participating in the 33rd Olympic Games, “Paris 2024 Olympics,” which will be held from July 26 until August 11, 2024, in the French capital, Paris, where the Kingdom will participate with a list that includes 14 male and female athletes representing five sports, which are athletics, swimming, and wrestling. Judo, weightlifting.
At the outset, His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, delivered opening remarks in which he conveyed to the attendees the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and the President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, praising His Highness’s support for the Bahraini delegation, stressing the keenness of the Olympic Committee and the sports federations to Honorable representation, with the participation of number of its champion athletes. The Secretary-General also delivered a speech, followed by a speech from the French Ambassador.
Ahmed Abdel Ghaffar gave a comprehensive presentation about the participating athletes, namely the Birhanu Pilau athletics team (5,000 meter race and 10,000 meter race), Olekemi Adekoya (400 meter hurdles), Salwa Eid (400 meter race), Nelly Jepkozki ( 800-meter race), Winfred Yafi (3,000-meter steeplechase), Eunice Jumba (marathon), Tigist Pillay (marathon), Rose Jelimo (marathon), and the swimming team is represented by Amani Al-Obaidli (100-meter backstroke), Saud Ghali ( 200 meter breaststroke), Gur Minciyan (weight over 120 kg), Lisman Montano (weight under 102), and the wrestling team includes Ahmed Taj El-Din (weight under 97 kg), and finally the judo team Eskerbi (weight under 81 kg), and reviewed some of the services in The Olympic Village, the tournament’s stadiums, and the dates of national team competitions.
The participants also witnessed a film was shown about the new uniform for the Bahrain team in the Paris 2024 Olympics, as well as a group of players also performed, namely the football team player, Yasmine Fayez, and the handball team player, Mohammed. Mirza, swimming team player Alaa Bin Rajab, football team goalkeeper Sayed Muhammad Jaafar, martial arts player Abdul Rahman Muhammad, athletics player Saleha Muhammad Lahdan, and wrestling team player Hussein Abdul Reda wore the new uniform and presented it to the audience, after which group photos were taken of the participants.
