MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment for promoting values of acceptance and human coexistence for a world of greater solidarity, peace, and prosperity has won global recognition through a UN resolution.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence in his speech highlighted the historic achievement of United Nations recognition of the International Day for the peaceful Coexistence, a milestone led by the Kingdom of Bahrain through the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence.
KHGC Chairman congratulated the HM King for his leadership role at the global stage for a promoting peaceful coexistence as well as the United Nations’ adoption of the draft resolution submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, through the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence. The resolution paved the way for officially designating January 28 as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence
“Bahrain’s steadfast commitment under the leadership of His Majesty the King, and its pioneering role in promoting the values of peace, acceptance, dialogue, and mutual international understanding, rejecting intolerance and hatred, and respecting human, religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity.
The members of the diplomatic corps, religious leaders, cultural and media. The gathering served as a tribute to their support and a celebration of the United Nations’ adoption of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s initiative to establish the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence.
The UN recognition is reflective of the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister. This initiative reinforces Bahrain’s commitment to promoting values of acceptance and human coexistence for a world of greater solidarity, peace, and prosperity.
The adoption of the UN initiative, with the support of 162 member states of the United Nations General Assembly, is a testament to the international community’s appreciation of the royal initiatives that support the dissemination of a culture of peace, enhance interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and resolve conflicts through peaceful means. Among the most prominent of these initiatives are the establishment of the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence in accordance with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Declaration of Freedom of Religion and Belief, the launch of the King Hamad Award for Peaceful Coexistence, and other global awards for serving humanity, empowering women and youth, and calling for the adoption of an international convention to criminalize religious, sectarian, and racial hate speech, and reject intolerance.
“Bahrain’s initiative serves as a comprehensive and sustainable global platform, shaped by its historical and civilizational identity and its vision as a beacon of acceptance, coexistence, and religious and cultural diversity. It reflects the international community’s recognition of the importance of education, training, media, and cultural awareness, and effective international partnerships in building safe, stable, cohesive, and prosperous societies, supporting the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Future Charter, and international covenants.
HE Shaikh Abdulla also presented mementoes to the members of diplomatic corps in recognition of their support and cosponsors of the draft resolution. He expressed profound gratitude to all the countries that supported this noble initiative, as well as to the distinguished guests, diplomatic, religious, media, and community figures, who played a role in making this vision a reality.
